Japan to USA DDP Shipping Update 2026 No Import Duties to Pay Upon Delivery

We are pleased to announce an important update to our international shipping services at GACHAKAWA.
Starting October 15, 2026, all eligible orders shipped from Japan to the United States will use DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping.
This change means that applicable import duties will be paid in advance, allowing our US customers to receive their packages without having to pay those duties upon delivery.
We are also preparing to introduce DDP shipping to European Union (EU) countries gradually.
Please read the following information carefully, especially if you have an existing order or plan to purchase multiple items.
1. What Is DDP Shipping from Japan to the USA?

DDP stands for Delivered Duty Paid.
Under DDP shipping terms, the seller is responsible for arranging payment of applicable import duties and taxes rather than leaving these charges to the customer upon delivery.
With our new shipping system, GACHAKAWA will use Japan Post's supported customs procedures, including Zonos, to arrange prepaid import duties for eligible shipments to the United States.
The biggest benefit for customers is that covered import duties are paid in advance, so you will not need to pay them again when receiving your package.
This helps make international shopping more predictable and reduces unexpected customs charges.
2. US Shipping Fees Will Increase by Approximately $4

Due to the introduction of DDP shipping, shipping fees to the United States will increase by approximately $4 USD on average, starting October 15, 2026.
This adjustment helps cover the additional costs of prepaid import duties, customs processing, and related services.
The exact increase may vary depending on the products, order value, and shipping conditions.
Although shipping costs will be slightly higher, the new system offers several benefits:
- Import duties for covered shipments are handled in advance.
- No separate payment of covered import duties is required upon delivery.
- Fewer unexpected customs-related expenses.
- More transparent shipping costs.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to provide a more reliable international shopping experience.
3. Already Placed an Order? No Additional Payment Required

If you placed an order before October 15, 2026, please don't worry!
For existing orders that have not yet shipped and qualify for our new DDP service, GACHAKAWA will cover the applicable import duties without requesting additional payment from you.
You do not need to:
- Pay an additional shipping fee.
- Pay a separate charge for the covered import duties.
- Cancel or place your order again.
Your existing order will remain valid, and we will prepare your shipment according to our updated shipping procedures.
If you have questions about an existing order, feel free to contact us.
4. Advantages and Limitations of DDP Shipping
DDP shipping makes purchasing Japanese products easier, but there are also a few important points to understand.
Advantages
No unexpected import duties upon delivery
For eligible DDP shipments, applicable import duties are paid in advance.
More transparent total costs
Customers can better understand their overall purchase expenses before completing an order.
A more convenient delivery experience
Prepaid duties can reduce the need for customers to make separate customs payments during delivery.
Limitations
Shipping and product prices may be higher
Because customs-related costs are handled in advance, shipping fees or product prices may increase.
Customs inspections may still occur
DDP shipping does not guarantee that a package will clear customs immediately.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) may inspect, delay, or hold shipments that require additional verification, documentation, or regulatory checks.
Some shipments may require special handling
High-value shipments, commercial imports, and certain regulated products may require additional customs procedures.
5. Important Notice for Commercial Purchases and Bulk Orders

If you are purchasing Japanese products for resale, business use, or other commercial purposes, please contact us before placing your order.
Commercial shipments may require additional documentation or customs procedures.
We may contact customers to confirm the purpose of their purchase when an order includes:
- Large quantities of the same product.
- Multiple identical toys, collectibles, or trading card products.
- High-value merchandise.
- Unusually large orders.
- Products requiring additional import documentation.
Please provide accurate information about the intended use of your order.
If your purchase is intended for commercial use, please do not declare it as a personal purchase.
Providing accurate information helps us prepare the necessary shipping documents and reduce avoidable customs problems.
We appreciate your cooperation.
6. How to Avoid US Customs Delays and Delivery Problems
To help ensure smooth customs processing and successful delivery, please follow these recommendations.
Use Your Full Legal Name
Please enter your real first and last name when placing an order.
We strongly recommend avoiding nicknames, aliases, or incomplete recipient names.
Incorrect or unverifiable recipient information may cause delivery delays, customs verification problems, or returned shipments.
Use an Accurate Residential Address for Personal Orders
For personal purchases, we recommend using your full legal name and a valid residential address whenever possible.
If you plan to use a company name, business address, or workplace address, please contact us before ordering.
Business addresses are not automatically prohibited, but some shipments may require additional information depending on the circumstances.
Double-Check Your Shipping Information
Before completing your order, please verify that the following details are correct:
- Full recipient name.
- Street address and apartment number, if applicable.
- City, state, and ZIP code.
- Telephone number.
- Email address.
Incorrect or incomplete shipping information can cause delays or failed delivery attempts.
Consider USPS Pickup Options to Reduce Package Theft
If you are concerned about package theft or missed deliveries, you may wish to check whether your shipment is eligible for collection at a USPS facility.
Some international shipments may have limited pickup or hold options depending on the service and delivery status.
Please contact USPS directly to confirm whether a pickup option is available for your package.
Please note that DDP shipping does not guarantee faster customs clearance or delivery.
7. Important Information About High-Value Shipments
Certain high-value shipments may not qualify for the standard prepaid-duty procedures available through Japan Post.
In particular, shipments with a declared merchandise value exceeding $2,500 USD may require different customs procedures.
If you are planning to place a high-value order, please contact us before purchasing so we can confirm the available shipping options.
We may need to arrange an alternative shipping method or provide additional customs documentation.
8. DDP Shipping to the European Union (EU) – Coming Soon
We are also preparing to introduce DDP shipping to European Union countries.
Our goal is to make purchasing Japanese products more convenient for customers across Europe by reducing unexpected import charges.
DDP shipping will be introduced gradually for eligible EU destinations.
Please note that import VAT, customs duties, and processing requirements may vary depending on the destination country and order value.
Until DDP shipping becomes available for your destination, customers may still be responsible for applicable import taxes and customs handling fees upon delivery.
We will announce further updates as additional countries become eligible.
